Just This Once Escape to New Zealand Book 1 eBook Rosalind James

While on a quest for lighter reading, I've been searching free or cheap downloads for my Kindle lately. There are many hit or miss, but a serious hit was Book 3 of Rosalind James Escape to New Zealand Series. I was very impressed. This find led, within hours, to my download of Book 1: Just This Once. And then 2. And 4. And so on. After reading the Entire NZ series, I stepped over to James' Kincaids series. Why you ask? Because Rosalind James has an uncanny knack for giving you some pretty believable characters that you, or at least I, fall in love with. Hannah and Drew are a great introduction to the series. Her women are capable and pretty, but they aren't perfect. They're smart and they're independent. I don't tire of them, and that's refreshing with romance type novels. The guys? Well, that's another story. I thought, "New Zealand. Hmmm... that will make for some nice scenery in her books." Well the nice scenery isn't just green landscapes and blue water. James decided that women in the US were lacking a bit of Maori muscle, and so introduced us to the All Blacks: NZ's National Rugby team. Her descriptions are so vivid that I can't put the books down once I begin. There've been days I was ready to sell it all and move to NZ. Her characters are honest people, and yes, most often the endings are just what I'd expect. As they well should be. The sex? It's not ridiculous or over the top. It's real and it is *definitely* there, so if your sensibilities are easily offended- perhaps this isn't the series for you. If, however, you want a plausible "romance", these are your gals and guys. The couples aren't cookie cutter, and neither are the relationships between them. I really do love them as if I knew them. My favorite part has to be the continual tie in of the characters in all the books. Hannah and Drew in Just This Once reappear as the series progresses, so you don't feel you've lost touch with the first characters you meet.

When I want to read, it seems to fill a different need each time. Those times I am looking to unwind and take a break, Rosalind James' novels let me relax and take a beautiful vacation in my mind, without feeling like I've been whipped into submission. I can't recommend them highly enough for a fun read that leaves you satisfied.

Just This Once Escape to New Zealand Book 1 eBook Rosalind James Reviews

Just This Once is the FIRST "sports" romance book I've ever read and it opened up a whole new genre for me. I'm normally a fan of either paranormal romance or romantic suspense but this book caught my eye as my husband & I had visited New Zealand several years back and I couldn't get the experience out of my mind (yes, we WILL be vacationing there again soon!!!). We didn't attend a rugby match while we were there but did enjoy the active volcanic parks, kayaking, the hospitable nature of the Maori. Believe it or not, there are places you can purchase veggies and all sorts of fruits where you pick what you want from the locals on the roadside and just leave your $$ in the jar....but one of the best experiences was the Maori Village where you see firsthand how humble and powerful these people really are.
This review isn't about our vacation, mind you but Rosalind James manages to capture the heart of ours and added 10X the steam (well...we didn't go there looking but ours was even more personified there! and Hannah didn't either but she managed to capture our adventure and steam, too!) and made the life of the island really come alive in its true heart and spirit.

I loved Hannah reserved, cautious, determined and yet longing for the "luxury" to LOVE . Her struggle is real, she needs to let go and trust Drew and what she feels, which is nothing simple for her. And Drew? Well, what's not to love about a very quiet, steady and determined man? At some point, you realize Drew wants to stand up to anything and not falter, which definitely works in Hannah's favor, but....you wonder if she'll ever see what's right in front of her! Plus, you have the added fact that he's a gorgeous, a muscle-bound rugby captain, of which she never realizes while she's there!! Such a great book in the way of both main characters being humble and just taking life and experiences that are put in front of them.

This book introduces a few side characters, some of whom will receive their own stories later in the series, but none of them require separate reading (very unusual these days). It's hard NOT to fall in love with these books.
First, I read this book in 2013. I had no idea how to write a review and had no idea reviews even existed. This was my first Ms. James book. I ABSOLUTELY loved it. I fell in love with New Zealand and have been a big fan of the NZ authors ever since. I love the description of their beautiful country and people. A great book and I definitely recommend it.

The heroine has come to New Zealand to get away, relax, and find her place in the world. Her first day she goes for a swim. Not realizing how far she had gone and that she had been in a rip tide, she is in trouble. She keeps swimming to try and get out of it and back to land. However, she just seems to be getting further and further away and she is beginning to tire. Out of nowhere she is pulled aboard a small boat. She is overcome with relief that she has been saved and is going to be ok. Little does she know her life is about to take a big change. She doesn't know it because she has no idea about rugby or how big it is in the country she is visiting. But the captain of the Blacks team just saved her.

This is their story and it is good. I loved every minute of it. She finds her place alright and it is in his bed!! Now the book is STEAMY, the author tells you that in the write up, so to be upset and give a low star review is hardly fair. But then some people just don't get it. Some reviewers thought the book was boring but for me, I could not put it down. I loved the story, the location and the characters. I thought they were all very likable and you definitely care what happens to them. A great read and for me it was the start of a great relationship! I know own 16 of Ms. James' books.

I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I would love to visit her though!! I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 11-2-17
