Carol developed the first typical symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in 2011, but the diagnosis was soon changed to Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). The first physical symptoms were quickly followed by hallucinations, which at first were benign, but quickly became quite scary. While caring for Carol, Bob slowly, painfully learned how to cope with her physical as well as mental symptoms. This book describes those lessons in the hope that others caring for LBD patients will benefit from them, and their path down this road will be easier.

Honey I Sold the Red Cadillac is a story which begins in 2003 and goes through 2015. It is a difficult and heartwarming story of a very patient man who does everything to keep his wife safe and happy. I couldn't put it down. It is well written, it takes the journey from Parkinson's Disease to Alzheimer's with Lewy Bodies. Bob tells of all the trials he went through to keep his wife safe and happy. I believe everyone should read this if you have a loved one with P.D. who is not responding to medication. The knowledge that this journey continues to this day makes the story all the more poignant and informative.Product details

Honey I Sold the Red Cadillac Learning to Cope With Lewy Body Dementia 9781483598345 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews
This book is a great resource for family members who have a loved one suffering from dementia. The author's honesty about the challenges of his wife's diagnosis provides support for others in similar situations. The format of short essays makes it a quick and easy read while still providing a significant amount of helpful information.
Bob Wolf's travail from denial, anger, bargaining, depression and final acceptance regarding his wife's Lewy-Body dementia is stunning. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who counsels many caregivers dealing with the angst of this disease. I have shared excerpts from this book with caregivers who have been profoundly grateful for his insights. One caregiver shared "This is the first time I smiled since my husband has been diagnosed." If you are dealing with any diagnosis of Dementia, this little book will feel like you have found a friend; you have!
This book is a great resource for anyone who has a loved one or relative living with Lewy Body. It really helped me understand what my relative was going through and gave me a better frame in which to engage her. I highly recommend the book.
Bob Wolf’s informative (and heartwrenching) book specifically addresses his wife’s Lewy Body Dementia. But I believe that readers who have (or had) a loved one with any type of dementia will find themselves nodding their heads, recognizing and affirming many of the similar, agonizing challenges that face caregivers as well as family members. I wish that my caregiver father could have found a book like “Honey, I sold the red Cadillac,” during the years he cared for my Alzheimer-afflicted mother. Bob’s compassionate relating of his own coping challenges could have also helped me and my siblings. His book is small but valuable.
This is a very poignant and personal story of one family's journey to understand and cope with Lewy Body Dementia. Mr Wolf shares the fear, frustrations, challenges and even the humor that he and his wife shared from its earliest symptoms until today. This book is a valuable addition to the library of anyone interested in learning effective ways to cope with and minimize the stresses that affect everyone involved in the care of a loved one experiencing dementia.
The stories in the book are interesting, and may surprise people who have not heard of Lewy Body Dementia, or the hallucinations that can affect the lives of those living with the disease. I am also a caregiver for a person with LBD, and I can say that I relate completely to the unending hallucinations, the paranoia, the inability to convince the person with LBD that the hallucinations are not real- no matter how "logical" our reasoning seems to us. Carol was convinced that there was a 7th floor in their two story building and could not be reasoned with otherwise, even when seeing the mere two floors from the outside of the building. Mr. Wolf seems to do his best to describe the frustration in dealing with the hallucinations and calming the fears of the person having them. As Mr. Wolf discovered, there don't seem to be many actual solutions to this issue for the caregiver or the person with LBD.
Why did the author choose this title when writing about a very serious subject, Lewy Body Dementia? Read this informative and poignant story of the challenges and demands of caring for a person with LBD. The author provides much insight and intimate personal examples that all caregivers and those with loved ones suffering from LBD will benefit. The title sends a powerful message which reinforces one of the many coping skills associated with LBD. No other title was appropriate for this story. 5 star rating
